Marketing: Stop losing customers
Do you want to know how to gain a lot of extra business – fast? Stop losing customers! There’s not a business right now that hasn’t lost customers in the last year or so – the trouble is, you may not know who they are, why they left, where they went, or how much it cost you.
You need to stop the loss! Half the time the reason customers leave is because someone simply came along with a better or different offer. They were there when you were not. In a market place where customers are worth their weight in gold, you need to ensure this doesn’t happen to you.
- Stay in contact with your customers – by newsletter, embark on an email marketing campaign, invite them to comment on your online blog. In short, make them feel important and loved.
- Make an offer. Everyone loves offers at the moment so make it easy for them to buy from you at a great price.
- Invite customers to a special event. An open evening out of hours at a shop. Or a visit or talk at a relevant joint venture partner’s – where they get exclusive access to a great offer into the bargain.
However, the critical factor in all of this is your database. If you are working haphazardly with no customer or prospect list you’ll be all at sea. Just consider how useful it would be to a restaurant or hairdresser to know the anniversaries and birthdays of key clients. Or renewal dates for a mortgage broker. Or computer purchase dates for an IT support business. Make an offer at the right time and watch the business walk through the door.
Most businesses believe that they need to get a customer to make a sale. Clever businesses recognise they need to make a sale to get a customer. A lifetime relationship that will benefit from your skills for years to come.
